As a high school student, I agree with you that our role is to study and get a good education. However, there are people our age that don't share that kind of role. Sang, you said that Koreans focus solely on education. I don't think that's necessarily true because I've met people that pursued other things such as make-up art. Not many people hear about these type of people but in Korea, there are people that get a job right away instead of going to college if they don't think studying is the right thing for them.

Our role as a student is to study. They first do not have any goal or reason to study in elementary or middle school, most of the students study with their parents¡¯ expectation. However, as high school students, usually students study to go to university and for their life. In addition, students need to respect their teachers, parents, and other older people. They also have to find their own way for their life. Their parents do not have a role to choose our own life, but expect for some parents. There are some parents who make their child to do with their will.

Yes I do agree that the expected roles of us high school students is to study and behave well. Also, in Asia where Confucianism beliefs are deeply routed, the students also have to especially focus on being respectful towards others. It is quite sad but I think that's it..

Students are expected to study and be mature. Yes it is mandatory. But there is something else inside us, something that some people don't know about this, a talent. How are we going to figure this out if our parents don't support this big power that might change our life in a second and keep forcing us to do what they want

As a student, our main roles are to study and focus on what the teacher tells us at school. However, not all students are able to play the roles they are normally assigned to do. Some students do not feel that studying is that important or is a big part of their lives. On the other hand, there are most other students that feel that for now, as a student, our main roles are to study and go to college.

Role expectation with now and in the history changed dramatically. Bfore men and women had clear gender roles, but now it is different, both have differenr roles. In school and as students, our main roles is probably college and to study. Future is our first prooierty

Like many already said, the most expected goal as a student is to work hard during high school to be able to go to a good college. Many stress about it during most of their high school years because after high school the most expected goal as a graduate is to learn well in college and get a good job.

Studying hard and being mature is the primary objective of all students. Every parents wish for their children to have a better life after graduating school and college so that they could bring a change into the society we live in.

Universally, students are expected to excel at whatever situation they're in, mostly academically. They are expected to listen to their parents and behave in society. But there are some difference in expectations between different cultures. In Western society, students are encouraged to find their specialty and find their own path of success. But in Eastern society, students are forced to study and go to a great university, which is a sign of success. I also agree with Sageda's sarcastic comment; We, especially seniors, are expected to know what we want to do and be a good role model for our juniors, even though we don't have a clue on even who we are yet.

As a student? Hmm I think students are expected to study hard and get a good grades in every classes they are studying in. And in my head, we are expected to be respect to each other even though we dont know who they are especially the elders.

I as a 21st century teenager have tons of roles to play. When Im at home, I play the role of daughter and sister and when Im at school, I play the role of a student, friend and classmate. A lot of people think studying is our main role but if you really think about it, we play the role of daughter/son or brither/sister more than a student.

I now think the society does not expect us, the high school students, to study...rather, we are expected to go to college with good name values. Korean high schools now encourage extracurricular activities as well only because they help us to get into good colleges. This almost disgusts me, how society tries to make every part of our life to be dedicated to college preparation. We are also expected to be obedient to adults and be mature, which is contradictory as other people mentioned. In my family, I am expected to take care of my brother as older sister and to do some house chores as a girl. However, I usually let my brother do whatever he wants to do, and I know nothing about housework.

Our role as highschool students is to study, do our homework and find our true passions in life. With this said, our duty is also to get into a decent college where we can find commendable careers and jobs after graduation. So, pretty much, it is about making a brighter future for ourselves.

i think education is a global role expectation because most young people a round the worls are sin fact students, and the primary role of students is to study. Unless the cultures primary need is survival the thing that follows that is usually studying.

I also agree that high school students are expected to study. Society expects students to be great at everything. However, I think this pressures students too much. This creates an atmosphere that only the best can be remembered and survive. Also, for average students, the amount of workload is too great if they want to meet society's expectations. In general, I think this atmosphere and expectation has to change.
