I think the main reason for Psy's success was his good song and different choreography. The lyrics were different in meaning and were easy to understand for foreigners. The dance was funny and grabbed the attention of foreigners. The song in itself was addictive and made Psy succeed.

Haha good point Min. I've never thought of it in this perspective. To think about it, Psy isn't all that attractive and neither does he have an overall "amazing" vocal skills. I think he was able to succeed because of his courage. Due to this, at first the reaction of Gangnam Style might not have been so swell, but with his willingness, perseverance, and motivation, he was able to basically convince his audience that he is Korean (strong nationality) and he can acheive his dream.

I think that the fact that he wanted to portray the distinct social life of the Gangnam district into a song really allowed him to go beyond the creative boundaries. He wanted to portray this idea and he did it in such an extraordinary way that people slowly begin to find it extremely interesting. I've heard the song when it first came out and I didn't think of it as such a hit because it was so so then, but after finding out the meaning and watching the unique music video that displayed such spontaniety and randomness, I think I was attracted to the song..

I went crazy when I first saw Psy and his Gangnam style few months ago, the beats that played off during the song and his infamous horse move dance, is simply amazing. I remember I was like somewhere 36 million viewers when I first saw it in youtube but when I checked it now its like above 1.1 billion views. SO, its true about the fact that you don't need good looks or voice to become famous. All it needs is creativity, and the world will be yours.

I think Psy became so famous because he was different. He did what other singers didn't do. He made a music video that was ridiculous but funny. His lyrics were unexpected. Without the combination of them, Psy wouldn't have been able to be that famous.

I think he got super famous in the U.S. because yeah the song is really catchy and already a lot of the american s like k pop, but it also has something to do with how the lyrics sounds like ''open condom style''. There seriously was a whole report on how a lot of the americans actually thought that was the actual song lyrics and they were like...what...? haha

People all around the world love to get and find a good laugh out of someone and I think PSY did just that. I mean when looking at his physical image, he really does look hilarious almost like one of those comedians we see on korean TV. On top of all that funny physical material, that hilarious funny dance just makes it more viral.

I think Psy and his song became popular because they are unique. Even though Psy does not seem to have a great skill in singing, he seems to be talented in some other ways. But I think what caught people's attention the most was his dancing style and the song's rhythm. When I first heard the song, I thought it was kind of hilarious too.

I don't think the singer have to have great vocal skills to be popular. I think what grabbed people's attention was PSY's music video and his dance. It is so easy to follow and very addictive. no one cares about what the song say anymore. in today's world, song that are cool and more popular than songs that acutally has meaning

personally, i would say that you were right to stated that he is not really attractive and his vocal skill isnt really great, he's average. but the thing is he had characteristic that made him different with any other singer in Korea, which he doesnt really care about attitude, he just want to have fun and entertain people. because most of korean celebrity (that i know) always concern about people's perception towards them, so i assume they act fake and want people to love their "perfection". Not only that, he also made a phenomenal music video that really creative and unique.
