I think the bible puts emphasis on suicide because they believe that no one has the right to take one's life, even theirself. God gave their life so they should put value in it rather than taking it away. Suicide is like murdering yourself. But I believe that Ophelia deserved the Christian funeral. All she did was just loving her father and Hamlet but losing both of them. I kind of understand why she commited suicide.

I am no expert in Christian burials but by judging from my religion, its better to give a proper burial. Suicide is a sin and it is up to God to decide what He is going to do with it.

I think the bible wanted to emphasize that only god could give and end one's life. I think people at that era wanted to portray god as the most powerful person who can let one seek salvation.

According to the christian in my voew suicidal is not an option in which it is equal to killing someone. And death is chosen by you and your destiny. Suicide is a very negative thing to do but there are mnay people die to dofferent sotuation and suicide tendacies

This implies that in the Christian religion, that suicide is considered a very big sin because one is ending the life God gave them and therefore should not be considered a faithful Christian. Personally, I believe that Ophelia still should be given a Christian burial because she still did live faithfully throughout the play. I mean yeah she did mess up by killing herself but i think she should be judged on what she did in her life.

The Bible puts emphasis on the concept of suicide because in Christian belief, one does not own his or her own soul or life. The God possesses it and is supposed to decide what to do with it. So, committing suicide, where one kills himself, is arrogant. One's life is also a precious gift from God which he should cherish-he should not kill it. However, I think it is not bad to give Ophelia the Christian burial. The burial itself does not give salvation anyway. God decides about the salvation. And Ophelia was also crazy when she killed herself-if she was in the right mind, she would not have done that.

I dont think it was just to give Ophelia a Christian funeral when she commited suicide. The people justified her death because she was a part of a noble family. I dont think that religion distinguishes between the more fortunate with the less fortunate. Gpd loves us all equally and just because one is more fortunate than others, it doesnt give them more rights.

I think the Christian ideas going along with suicide being a huge and terrible sin is that God gave life, and you, when committing suicide is rejecting your own gift and taking life away. I think that they did not want to give her the Christian funeral in order to not 'taint' the traditions. I think it is a choice of the ones who are in authority.

Committing suicide is taking away something so valuable. It ought to be considered a sin. I guess as other people mentioned, life is something that's been given to us. Also as others mentioned it is something that is highly blasphemous so it is no doubt that she is going to be punished. For the second question, I do not think such a matter of deserving a Christian funeral or not matters as much.
