Yea i believe he categorized those sins according to what he believed to be way too harmful for the society and those that were commonly done in everyday life.

I also think that all sin are the same no matter what to what extent the sin was, it is still disobeying God. But since this is Dante's interpretation of hell, I'll just think of it this way when I am answering questions about the Inferno. I think Dante leveled the different circles of hell the way that he did because of how harsh the impact on was on the people they committed the sin against.

Yeah I agree with you. I think Dante really valued relationships so he thought sins that had to do with hurting someone especially your friends or family was the worst sins of all. I thought not believing in God would be the worst level of hell if sins had to be rated but I guess Dante had different ideas.

I think that the reason why the betrayers were worse than the adulterers was because of how much Dante was betrayed by others long ago. Because he has been betrayed too many times, he has a strong negative perception on the betrayers.

I agree with you that the damage it cost to others are usually very harmful and sometime, this harm effects a big part of people's life. For example, when some betray to get what they want, the others usually get physically and psychologically hurt by others.

I also think that he created the levels of hell according to the social values at that time and what he had experienced.

I also believe that all sins are bad and they are equal in terms of their impact on God. Apparently, Dante thought there were certain sins that were worse than others. I think this was caused by his societal moral values. In this case, adultery and lust were considered worse than betrayals. Maybe Dante thought this was worse than other ones because they were more common in the society during that time.

Gluttons were so greedy and stuff. Am I a glutton? I say yes to that question. I love eating and drinking. SEriously, that IS my thing. If that is considered a sin, then I would happily go to that stage and eat myself until I die. Dante didn't know how to eat or drink, and that's why his life was so miserable. I basically eat everything I see. I can even eat dogs ruff ruff! The society during that time was going through serious food shortage problems.. That makes me sad..

I also think that all sin are the same no matter the sin was, it is still disobeying God. no sins are better or worse than the other. i dont know if we could put a level on any sins becuase i believe that all sin must be punish in certain way not like this sin is less harsh punishment than another sin.
