I do think that respecting elders is a positive influence of Confucianism. However, these days, there are old people who thinks that they have all the rights to do whatever they want to just because they are old. I do not think those uneducated old people deserves our respect. I agree with sageda's comment saying that women are viewed as second class. However, women are working their way up to become a infleuential figure of our soceity. One example, OUR PRESIDENT IS FEMALE, MS PARK, SHE IS NOT EVEN MARRIED.

By producing harmony in society through respect and value in honor and virtue, Confucianism is great in the sense that societies become more friendly and more family like. People are taught to respect each other and treat their elders nicely, and I think Confucianism promotes peace through harmony and respect.

positive would be respecting the elders but the negative would be respecting too much and so it becoming obeying the elders.

Its a good thing to respect elders, no matter what class or talent they possess. But showing too much of a respect may cause some trouble. So, its better to stay in a limit.

I also think that the positive side of Confucianism is that people focus on manners and try to be respectful to each other. People try not to offend each other's feeling. The negative side is that some old people abuse their privilege since Confucianism involves respect for elders. Some old people are unreasonably mean to younger people that I think they do not deserve privilege.

I also agree in that the positive side of confucianism is that they respect the elders. Many societies, especially nowadays, treat the elderies so bad that I even feel sad about it. However, I still think that the negative side of it is greater because they think of women as lower than men. I know that most societies believe it that way, but I still do not understand their thoughts at all.

Confucianism values education and respect. I guess some respect to the elders are needed but if the elders take it for advantage, then young people start to question if they should respect them. In Korea its a natural thing to respect older people even though they are just a year older, but sometimes they are rude to us because they know that we have to obey them.

I think Confucianism's influence sucks. I can't stress how much abusive the elderly has gotten with this idea of confucianism. Of course, not all of them do this, but still, it is inevitable that many of them believe that they can cause many things such as public disturbance in the subways or just looking down upon the younger generations. I get the fact that they have more experience, but that is not a gateway to have more power or to use against the young.

I think filial piety is important and it should be kept, I also think that all the points of Confucianism are all true and good. but it starts becoming a problem with people take advantage of them.
