In the story Don Quixote, there are two characters that are totally opposite to each other. Don Quixote is completely struck by his own fantasy that he cannot even distinguish reality from his dream world. Sancho, on the other hand, is always thinking of practical ways to solve problems and look at things. Those two need each other and support each other throughout the journey.
But what do you think of unattainable, or unrealistic dreams? Do you think they're dangerous or do you think they're benevolent?
I first thought living in your own fantasy world would be a risky thing, but then I learned about Don Quixote. He tried so hard to become a courtly knight, and he was happy when he was in his own world. I think it is okay to have a goal that is unlikely to be achieved!

I think that it depends on the situation. To have unattainable or unrealistic dreams, like Don Quixote, would motivate one to work hard and gain certain achievements, which would be very hard to earn if one was realistic like Sancho. On the other hand, it would be a disappointment when one realizes that reality is totally different from the fantasy and it could make one give up on his or her dream.

I think they can be harmful. When one has unattainable and unrealistic dreams and they chase those dreams, the fall from failing to attain the dream is much more hurtful. The disappointment is something that is expected.

I think living in fantasy can be very dangerous not only for that person but also to the society. If this guy is living in this own world with war going on, he can grab weapons at his house and start to kill people thinking that we are the enemies. I think that reality is too harsh sometimes that people need somewhere to escape from their harsh reality. I think you really have to know how to differentiate reality and fantasy.

I guess for the person that's living in the fantasy it would be fine as long as he or she is happy in their fantasy. But, it would be really uncomfortable for the people around them since they don't know how to react to someone that is living in their fantasy.

I honestly don't see anything wrong with what Don's doing. I mean, he is insane but if these crazy adventures make him happy then I don't see why being a little wreckless is so bad. Sancho is the realistic one but he obviously hates his life. Don actually enjoys his life. That's all that matters. But if you're the type of person who dreams too big and then gets crushed when it doesn't come true then maybe you should not fly so close to the sun.

I think living in a fantasy world will be dangerous and risky when a person is like Don Quixote. He made his armor with cardboard and he was just happy. So I think people should have their mindful goal that there is possibility to achieve.

Unrealistic dreams can be harmful for oneself and also for people around them. No matter how hard they try, unattainable goals will be unattainable goals. They will continnue to be disappointed and be depressed. Therefore it is better to have a goal that can be acheived.

I agree with you Storm, having an unattainable dream which you might not be able to achieve may give you some hope of achieving a nearer goal. You might have joy having it, dreaming about it and I think it's benevolent as well.

Unattainable dreams can always be dangerous for us, but if we think abut it, dreams can make hope in our lives. Many days, we live as if we have no purpose for our lives and feel depressed by those thoughts. However, having some kind of dreams will make us feel hopeful at least.

It may be good thing to pursue unrealistic dreams eagerly, believing that anything is possible. However, I personally do not like pursuing unattainable dreams because it would usually consume so much time and energy from me. It can be dangerous since there is too much sacrifice. Pursuing more reasonable dreams is more efficient and less disappointing.

I just seem to daydream about it too much. I have a lot of potential in other aspects of my life and I am just obsessed with daydreaming. I think it's affecting my life negatively.

I never think dreams are a waste of time. I am a strong thinker and I love to fantasize! I love the thought of big dreams. Whats so good about these big dreams is that you can mold it into your own perfect utopia! I love it because it also can be used as a form of refuge if you want to escape your terrible life down on Earth.
