I've heard that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" an infinite number of times, so I think for each diverse culture, the perspective on beauty is different.

I think many socieities relate physical beauty with superficial aspects or economic aspects. During the renaissance era, women who were "plump" or slightly chubby were considered beautiful for they showed signs of good health, wealth (food), and most of all the ability to give birth successfully and the fact that beauty was intertwined with those ideas really shows that a society may describe beauty depending on its situation. Nowadays, we relate beauty to apparently the opposite, which is being skinny and etc..

Come to think of it...Maybe beauty is related to a rare quality. At that time, being plump was a rare quality. Nowadays, having that particular body figure is kinda "rare." And I guess in Ancient Greek, people were tan?..I don't know but this is just another thought to stimulate more ideas.

Most cultures believe that beauty correlates with wealth. For example, Koreans favor pale skin because back in the day when there were farmers and slaves, they were dark skinned. Farmers and slaves had dark skins because they worked outside a lot under the sun while the wealthy stayed inside and attained pale skins. Therefore, Koreans still think that dark skin represents poverty and abhors it.

Different people have different perspective on the word beauty. To me, beauty is something that strikes your heart instantly when you observe it and by this, I mean grabbing attention and loving it. Something that makes you feel good all times and not to mention, happy as well.

It's different since so much time has passed since those days. Everything changes in time even the standard of beauty. Also, even now, in different places there are different views on what beautiful is so I guess culture and values play a big role in what beauty is too. But I think everyone has a different standard of beauty since what one person might think is beautiful another person might not.

I think standard of something need to form by many people’s opinion. Now in our society, most people in Korea think that people who are skinny is beautiful and also there are some kind of face that most people prefer like celebrities. So most people start to do plastic surgery and now became one of the common surgeries that people do in Korea for women to stand for the standard of beauty.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone said. But, I also think beauty isnt always one thing. I think that most people have different perspectives on beauty. Different people have different tastes. Some people look at the outside feature and determines beauty and others look in the inside and determines beauty.

I believe this is about physical beauty? Well, the standard of beauty changes because people's values and point of view change. In ancient time, fat women were considered beautiful because people valued much on fertility. I think media and celebrities play big role in determining the definition of beautiful as well. The meaning of beauty is also different for different cultures. This is why I think there is no general criteria for deciding who is beautiful or not...I guess one's attitude and first impression may play a lot on people's opinion.

I think its different because every culture have different likes and dislikes and these cultural difference comes from different region. For example, food from Korea and Amazon jungle will be different. Not only the food, but also clothes, appearance and rituals. Just like one of these, beauty is one part of these many different culture and people will not be able to explain because its just the way they are. They have been believing like that for many centuries and that became their cultural aspect.

Standard of beauty is different from depending on where a person grew up, the culture they are in, who then hangout with and their perspective. And I really hate when people judge others just by their standard of beauty. Every girls are beautiful. We just have to find someone who would think that i am the most beautiful girl in this whole universe.

the standard of beauty changes not only as time passes but also it depends on the different groups, because each group has different value and believe on what beautiful is. just like what others have been discussed, skinny and meaty girls. actually beyond than that, there are still a lot of considerations about what is beauty. like skin color, eyes, nose, etc.

The standard of beauty changes over time and it all depends on different cultures and values in different countries around the world. Long time ago, places like China believed that plump women and men were the ultimate standard of beauty. Now, the most common standard of beauty is portrayed by famous celebrities through the media.
