I haven't thought about the point that the queen was next to him when he was talking to Hamlet. I think he made Hamlet stay to look after him. I can't stop assuming that Claudius is acting to look like he cares for Hamlet. He want Hamlet to stay close to him so he can make sure that he doesn't find out the crime secretly. He is probably nervous that Hamlet or someone else would find evidence to the King's death.

I guess Claudius' personality is strong enough for him to feel no fear at all. He could have told Hamlet to stay because he may have thought that he could persuade Hamlet into forgetting about his dead father but instead, worship his new father and understand him. However, I believe that it was a wrong decision for Claudius to make since Hamlet has already met the ghost.

I believe that Claudius wanted Hamlet to stay in the palace because he didn't want Hamlet to find out about things such as about him killing Hamlet's father. Moreover, I think Claudius wanted to just keep Hamlet within his domain so he could watch Hamlet's actions.

If Claudius had the nerves to murder his own brother, then he has the nerves to see his victim's son. Also, now that he's king and he has a lot to lose, he would want to keep an eye on all the risks that he may face during his rule. Hamlet, the son of his victim, is the biggest risk because he's the son of the previous king and he has some political power. If I were Claudius in that situation, I would want to keep a close eye on my enemy and make sure that the risk doesn't get bigger.

the king might be afraid that Hamlet might here any information about what has actually happen to his father and what the king has done. So he is trying to prevent any ideas or information going to hamlet

I think Claudius wanted Hamlet to stay in the palace because he wanted to watch over Hamlet. I think Claudius fears that Hamlet might try to revenge on his father's death and possibly kill him. Therefore, instead of having Hamlet out of his sight, Claudius probably wants to make sure Hamlet does not do anything fishy.

I wonder that Claudius wants Hamlet to be with him because he wants to watch him. I personally think Claudius is scared if hamlet wants to revenge on him. And i think he knows that too so he is scared towards Hamlet.

I think Claudious wants to keep Hamlet at the palace because he doesnt want the people to think as if he sort of "pushed" the prince away from the palace or as if he is trying to keep Hamlet away from the palace so that he can get his whole control over the kingdom and do whatsoever he wants to or may be he wants to maintain a good and stable relationship with Hamlet to make him accept the father/son relationship and keep it up. We don't even know if Claudious is actually the killer of his father as it still remains uncertain. May be Claudious has nothing to hide or be afraid of, so he wants Hamlet to stay home until he overcomes his sadness.

I agree with you, if I were Claudius, I would want Hamlet around. Even though Claudius killed his brother, they were brothers. Although he had his political motives behind his murder, the thought of the murduer will still make him feel guilty and uncomfortable. So seeing his murdered brother's son (who even has the same name) will be painful and agonizing. I think Claudius just kept Hamlet in court to satisfy the queen because it's so obvious that she cares for her son alot.

I don't think Claudius suspected anything or even thought that Hamlet would be able to figure it out. Maybe that's why he was so shocked in his play. I genuinely dont' think he noticed Hamlet's anger towards him because after all they all seemed pretty oblivious to Hamlet's emotions. Maybe that's one of the things that triggered Hamlet - that nobody was paying attention to him.

I think Claudius was afraid of people around him being suspicious of him. The King Hamlet was found dead in his bedroom where it was considered the safest place, so Claudius maybe was aware of those that might question him. If Claudius sends Hamlet away to school right away after Claudius is on the throne might make him more suspicious, so by keeping Hamlet around him and being like a father to Hamlet might reduce his suspiciousness around him. Or it might be that Claudius felt guilty towards killing his brother so he truely wanted to be nice to Hamlet. Just my personal theories...

There are a lot of possible explanation for why Claudius wants him to stay. Maybe he wants to clear things out between them, see what he knows of his father's death, please the Queen perhaps. It would have been better if he just cast away Hamlet out of the kingdom.

I agree with you too he is trying to use hamlet as his advantage for example one of the part of the story in cladius exert, he shows greef and sadness , he even felt sorry for killing hamlet father and that he had done somethong wrong. On whoch i see this as sarcasm
