I would choose to obey Polonius. He seems to be a nice father and I might be able to trust him by looking at his actions toward his son and daughter.

In Ophelia's perspective it is important to think for herself. It is also important to listen to her father but it is also important to decide on herself. Because she is the one who makes the decision not her father.

I would not start ignoring Hamlet only because my father told me to do so. To me, there was no good reason given by Polonius to reject Hamlet, and therefore I would not completely obey him. Not that I would ignore my father's command-I would try to see why he would told me to avoid Hamlet. In the end, I would decide what to do. However, as other people said, I think it was usual for unmarried girls like Ophelia to blindly follow her father, brother, or any male family member at that time.

I would try to not just blindly obey my father to ignore hamlet if I was Ophelia. I will try to know more about Hamlet before I start to ignore him. Maybe my father will be wrong that Hamlet might be a great person.

Hamlet was acting really weird around Ophelia. I don't think she went to her father for an advice, but for help. She was frightened by his visit. He sent her letters before, but she didn't tell Polonius about them for a while. If I were her, I would try to talk to Hamlet and check if he's really insane or not. Because Polonius knows better about guys, it would help to ask him. But at the end of the day, I would make the decision.

I don't think that teenagers today would have a reaction like Ophelia's. Today, I feel that the father telling her daughter not to get closer to the guy she already likes would just make the girl chase the guy harder. In my opinion, I feel like Ophelia should have been given the choice whether or not to keep talking with Hamlet. And, I think that she shouldn't have listened just because of her father's suspicions.

I think Ophelia is very different from typical teenage girls. Aren't teenage girls really rebellious when it comes to friends, especially guy friends and even particularly boyfriends? She's more like a five year old girl who thinks her dad's opinion on anything like ANYTHING is all correct and that she should listen to him no matter what. If I were Ophelia, I would never blindly obey my dad's opinion on my friends and who to hang out or go out with withought even getting to know them.

I wouldn't blindly follow what my dad tells me to do. But I think I would think about why my dad would be telling me that since I know my dad wouldn't just say that for no reason. However, if I thought those reasons weren't good enough I would keep on dating Hamlet.

Not only following man's decision was the norm in the time period, but also i want to think that Ophilia had a trust in his father. Especially when your father is the King's advicer, you get to have have more pride over that and maybe in the past her dad might have given her useful advices that lead her to believe in her father's decision, all we can know for sure is that Ophilia did not love Hamlet as much.

well If I were Ophelia, I wouldn't. I would ignore Hamlet even though Polonius told me. I don't know about the society during that time but I still would do the things that I personally think its right. I mean its not like anyone would hurt me and I don't think Hamlet would hurt me because I haven't done anything that provoked him

I wouldn't. Polonius just stopped Ophelia saying to ignore without giving any explanations. If I was Ophelia, and I wanted to know more about him, I would not listened to my father and just do it as myself.

If I were Ophelia, I would have demanded an explanation from my father for why I should not be hanging around with Hamlet. But during that era, girls had to listen to their elders and Hamlet was a prince, any dad would be glad to hand over his daughter to the Royal family.
