I think murder is only acceptable as a form of self-defense. There are probably very gray areas but still, I think 99% of non-self defense murders are not justifiable. So, no, Hamlet does not get a pass.

murder is unjustafiable in my opinion because it is extremely bad, but except for one case it should be excluded such as self defense. I think the murder should bu justified against self defence. But overall murder is wrong, no act of murder should not take place at all

I think in this case murder is justifiable because as murder is malicious act that has no purpose behind it, I think Hamlet did not have any good reason to kill King Claudius. According to the theme uncertainty, the story is saying that ghost told him the story of his father and hamlet murdered him. To connect to our real society, people will think one a crazy person if one says that ghost told him to kill someone or talked about a story that can make someone anger.

I don't think murder can be justifiable. The person who murdered someone can say that it was justifiable for some reason for an excuse. No one has the right to take someone's life. Each person would might have had a reason to kill someone but the society as a whole can never take it as to be justifiable.

Hamlet does not have a good reason. I think murder is justifiable only in self defense and survival (like for food).

I also had the thought that the word "murder" refers to killing certain people for definite reasons. In many cases, people tend to kill each other because of a revenge they needed to pay them back for, or in other cases, there arent valid reasons for the crime, in which case it would never be understandable at all. But, this doesnt mean that just because the reason for the crime is revenge, it is certainly okay to kill other people.

I do not think murder is justifiable in any case except in self defense. Unless someone is equally trying to kill you, murder is still taking away someone else's life. Especially when it comes to murder, there is no turning back for the victim. Therefore, such malicious acts should not be accepted under any cases, unless your life is threatened.

Well there are many cases that can be handled. I mean when you are in a situation where you have to kill that person in order to survive i would say yes killing is ok because you can't die isn't it? And if its someone who has killed your loved one such as family member or friend or girlfriend i would say also yes. But if its like someone took my candy and i am going to kill him it is wrong. So it all depends on how big that "issue' is to kill a person or not.

I think murder can never be justified. No one has right to end another's precious life, no matter how bad he or she is. We are all same imperfect humans and therefore cannot correctly judge if one deserves to die. This is why I think Hamlet cannot justify his murder even if Claudius killed his father. He should try to calmly cope with his situation rather than to revenge on the murderer. Meanwhile, I believe self defense can be justified because everyone has right to protect himself or herself.

I don't think murder can be justified in any way. I agree with joon, I don't think killing someone for self-defense goes under murder. I guess this topic relates to euthanasia and abotion. I think it is ethically grey for someone to take someone else's life to end one's pain.

I believe that murder is supposedly be justifiable only in self defence because it's that extreme moment of muder or be murdered. I agree with most of us here saying murder except for self defense is unjustifiable; however, in extreme cases like in Hamlet, I don't want to say it's wrong. If what ghost said to Hamlet was true, urge to murder Claudius would be considered justifiable to Hamlet. Most of us here did not go through such an extreme situation like Hamlet. For me if I were to put in Hamlet's shoes, I would have to think over and over again just like what Hamlet did to revenge or not.

When it comes to self-defense, only then I MIGHT say that murder is justifiable even though it isn't. Surviving is what human nature thrives for. Every one of us are afraid of death and killing someone isn't the right thing.

I also think that murder is acceptable only when it was done for self-defense since the person has no choice but to protect himself or herself from the murder. But other times, murder is not acceptable and it does not get you to the solution.
