Respect is really big in this topic. There should be a mutual respect in a relationship between father and son. Respect is not given, its earned. Polonius deserves some respect from his son Laertes because has done everything he can do to protect his son and hes seems so careful about Laertes~

I actually do not think that they have a good father and son relationship going on. I actually think that they have probably the worst father and son relationship. First of all, as we went over in class, their relationship is purely superficial. Also what Polonious tells his son is purely fake as well, showing the emptiness in their relationship.

I think that Polonius and Laeretes' father son relationship was an ideal relationship. I can totally see real time dads and sons sharing the relationship Polonius and Laeretes shared. The fact that Polonius checked up on Laertes while he went abroad suits what actual dads would do for their sons. Also, when Laertes found out that his father was murdered the first thing he thought was revenge. Im sure that most sons would think the same when they find out that their father was murdered. Laeretes looked up to Polonius as a role model and most sons look up to their dad as well.

At first, it seemed that Laertes and Polonius did have an ideal relationship, but that changed a lot when Polonius ordered Reynaldo to spread rumors about his own son and spy on him. An ideal relationship should not be in the shadows. A father son relationship should have mutual respect for each other. They should be able to talk with each other, and rely on each other.

I think in order to have good father-son relationship, the most important thing is respect. I always fought with my father when i was young, but now we do not fight at all. We know what different perspectives and thoughts we have. I also think sharing common interest can be very important as well. If there is always something to talk about, they can be friends. I want to be friend with my son when i get one.

I think a good relationship between a parent and a child would be like, not too close but not too far. Our parents cannot be our best friend, but at least someone who we can share everything and anything. A good family relationship is really important in a way how the child grows up. Kids always look up to their parents when they are young and want to become like their parents.
