So we learned that the Epic of Gilgamesh is Heroic literature. I am sure many of you have read other Heroic literature in the past. If you know any heroes, compare and contrast them with Gilgamesh?

i would compare Gilgamesh with Hercules because they both have the same power but different mentality of thinking towards the environment that they are interacting with. Hercules is kind and helpful and Gilgamesh is cruel and heartless.

I think that Achilles is similar with Gilgamesh in that both are half god heroes with weaknesses of their own. Also both went on a journey that also makes them similar, although it was for different purposes.

I believe that Gilgamesh can be compared to King Arthur. King Arthur was a ruler who went on many journeys to conquer the world. Gilgmesh also went on the journey to achieve immortality. Although they had different goals and purposes, they still have some similiar concepts of the heroic literature.

I would compare Gilgamesh with Raytheon Thor. He is half human and half god. He does fight too. Well I think that's it.

I think I can also compare Gilgamesh with Hercules like Reggie said. From the myth, Hercules was also a half god and half human which is very similar to Gilgamesh. Also Hercules travelled around places to place and defeated monstrous creatures. There was time when Hercules lose his family I could compare to the time when Gilgamesh lost his friend.

I would compare Gilgamesh to Percy Jackson... the demigod who was also half god half human. Just like Gilgamesh, Percy finds himself yearning for immortality, believing life to be much better without death. However, in the end, Percy like Gilgamesh, realizes that life only has value with death.

Yea I agree with jinseong. Gilgamesh and Hercules share some similiarities such as being part human and part god. and hercules went through the journey to kill monsters i remember Medusa. Anyways, I guess most of the heroic literature contains some sort of journey and defeating monsters.

For me other hero like Gilgamesh could be Odysseus because his story is kind similar than Gilgamesh they both heros and they both fight for the people that they love.

Hmmm... I would compare Gilgamesh to Hancock. They both have the supernatural power, both first got rejected by the society, but in the end they both become hero that is loved by everybody. It's just that Gilgamesh wanted immortality while Hancock wasn't interested in it at all. Most importantly, however, both Gilgamesh and Hancock learned the true meaning of life by going throuh their journeys and became more mature..? haha. Anyways, those two heroes are really interesting compared to other heroes because those two are not as mighty as the other one so it's easier for me to connect with them.

Gilgamesh reminds me of Odysseus. The journey both had to take seemed superhuman. Their tasks would leave any mortal helpless, and maybe even dead. Though Odysseus was not half god, he seemed to have the strength of a half god.

Robin Hood, described in English ballads in 15th century, can be compared with Gilgamesh as well. I cannot think of similarities between two much-well, both are considered as heroes who have extraordinary strengths. Gilgamesh has superhuman abilities, and Robin Hood is good with arrows. There are many differences-King Gilgamesh is an one-third god who used to neglect his people and later goes on a quest for an immortality. He learns some lessons and returns to his kingdom as a better king. Meanwhile, Robin Hood is not a demi-god or a ruler. Rather, he lives in a forest and often attacks authority figures for needy and poor people.
