Haiku

As the wind does blow Across the trees, I see the Buds blooming in May I walk across sand And find myself blistering In the hot, hot heat Falling to the ground, I watch a leaf settle down In a bed of brown. It’s cold—and I wait For someone to shelter me And take me from here.
These are examples of Haikus. Thao told the class that the writers of haikus didn't really put deep meaning in these short poems. Obviously, it would be really hard to write something deep when you only have three lines and few syllables to work with.
But do you personally think the writers didn't put meaning in their haikus, or do you think we still can find deep meaning and analyze haikus?
I personally believe that haikus are there for entertainment. Putting deeper meaning into it would be dangerous, or simply stupid.

I think the beauty is in the simplicity. You are right, there isn't enough room to fully describe their thoughts and emotions, so they have to use allusion and somehow get the reader to infer what they are thinking about. I think it is definitely for entertainment, but can also have a deeper meaning too. I mean, if all else fails, its easy to sort of hide your true thoughts.

I think that haikus can have deeper meanings. I don't think it can go so deep like other poems or literature because the words are limited. However, I don't think they would just write down random words.

I agree with Elijah. Beauty of Haiku is with its simplicity. Some say that it is not awesome because it is not descriptive enough that readers might not understand. As a reader myself, i really like Haiku, beacuse it is simple and straight forward.

I agree with Tlijah too. And I don't think the writers put deep meanings to it since it's too short and simple. If they'd wanted to put deep meanings, they might've written their poems in other form.

I agree that there is no deep meaning in Haiku. I think the attraction of Haiku is the simplicity. So the beauty is that if one reads the poem once, one should just get the meaning and understand it. Therefore, it is like a phrase or quotes that people likes to remember.
