While reading Popol Vuh, I found a part where animals were trying the harm people. "Pain! That's all you have done for us". Not only during this period, but now a days we still harm animals such as killing it to eat it, and before eating it, we lock them up in small rooms and feed them all kinds of stuff to make it fat. We also use animals for entertainment, and experiments. Few weeks ago, I saw an article about a giraffe which escaped from the circus. It ran to the road and threatened people. Unfortunately it was shot by the police and died because of an heart attack. This made me think that people are cruel. We kill them easily for our own good. What do you guys think? Do you think animals are made up for us to use them? Should there still be zoos and circus?

Well we still have to survive... right? They don't deserve those kind of treatment but not everyone can't be vegetarian. but... about the Zoo and the circus, I think that's kind of unacceptable....... treating animals like some kind of toys are not right things to do.... If people have to keep the animals, they should make the environment better than zoo..

Dont you think that Human is the best creature on earth? And animals were born to be killed and eaten. I'm not saying that human is the best creature in the universe because based on the holy Koran, it says that there is another creature that lives in the universe but anyway, if we don't kill animals and eat them like we are doing right now, then what should we do? Take em to the cinema and watch Madagascar with them? or hangout with them in the woods? I love nature but that's not what I normally do, what I do is that I kill and eat them all. Im not a cannibal, I don't eat my friends. Yup I don't eat vegetables, I can't live without fried chicken and beef. Fire and water, right and left, true and false, day and night. Balance! remember?

what i think is, every creatures in this world are made with reasons. just like animals, they were made to be eaten, to make clothes with their skins, to expand our knowledge through experiments, to improve employment in this world (zoo, circus, scientific things, etc). there are so many benefits that we could take from animals. but it depends on each individual how are they gonna treat them. so i would say yes for your question, animals were made for us. to satisfied our needs. but again, it depends on the people how are they gonna treat them, some people treated animal just like human. i remember i couldnt sleep all night long just because i accidentally grind on sewer rat by my motorcycle haha ._.

Honestly we all know that animals throughtout time have been used as a way of entertainment and maybe even experimentation but we also know that zoos for example are ways in which animals sometimes are protected to not get hurt. if you think about it that is why people make the park reservation thingys, to protect the animals from extiction. Many times we dont realize how importatn animals are to us as humans, because yes they do provide us with food but sometimes we dont know that they are much more important than that.

I watched Discovery channel with my classmates. In the video, the lion ran quickly to catch the deer and was finally carefree eating the flesh of the deer. My classmates always vocalized the sounds like "Aww~". But when the lunch time came, they filled lots of meats in their dishes. I got a conclusion that people want to protect animals but can't stop eating them. It's contradiction. People have kind hearts, they just don't implement their thinking.

It depends that people are killing animals easily for our own good or not. For the article that you read, maybe giraffe caused some kind of injuries to people or might cause problems. There might be reasons why police shot the giraffe. If police shot giraffe for no reason or there might have other ways to capture the giraffe, then it might be situation where police killed easily for his own good. Therefore, stating that people killing animals easily for our own good is depended on the situation.

When you see in that point of view, humans have been cruel to animals because they do experiments to them and put them in small cages or in zoos. However not all humas are cruel to animals. Some of humans do community services, regarding the animal rights and their treatments. And some people around the world help endangered species and educate us about the issue, so that we can become aware of them. So I think it is not right to say all people are cruel to animals.

I do agree that we humans use animals for experimenting and entertainment and I don't like the fact that so many animals are being killed during the experiments but other times we help them too. Like Jessica said many people are saving the endangered species and help prevent them from going extinct these days.

Its cruel, but its also nature. This might be really debated but if we lock up animals and eat them its for a reason. I really dont agree with animal experimentation but to play devils advocate I have to say that the only way of testing out products are animals and its mostly the only ethical way to teste them without it being a danger to you.

I think we have to use them sometimes for our own goods. But I don't think zoos and circuses are necessary. I personally don't like the idea of treating animals like our pets and use them to make us have fun. Also, I don't think it is cruel for a policeman to shoot a girrafe. We might think that the the policeman is cruel, but he must have done that for people's safety, he must have thought that shooting an animal is cruel but I think as a policeman, who should care about people's safety, he has done the right things. But ofcource for the animal, I think it is cruel...

I think that treating animals however we want is pretty cruel. However, that doesn't mean that I think we shouldn't eat them or not use them for our survival. I guess what I'm saying is that we can eat them and use them to survive, but we shouldn't use any more than what we need from them. The problem is that we have already gone too far, and now that we populate most of the world and have stolen most of what belonged to mother nature, it's pretty hard to change our ways of abusing animals. If we did, then people would start getting upset because the price of meat rises or the things that they want from animals become hard to find.

I think that it is pretty messed up how people kill animals and use them for their own entertainment. But, I don't think that I can survive without eating meat and I don't think eating animals is wrong. Well I don't think that you should eat dogs so I guess I just have my own idea of what humans should and shouldn't be allowed to eat. I just think that killing animals for entertainment and watching and making animals fight for your own entertainment is wrong.

I think people eating the animal is not wrong since it's just part of the life cycle. It's just the way we treat animals before eating it is disgusting and morally wrong. People these days are so selfish that they don't appreciate animals but instead torture/murder them for our own goods. This reminded me of what we've learned last year, how Native Americans prayed for the soul of the animal they just killed before eating it. I'm not saying that we should all be hippies to worship nature and animals but I think we should at least learn how to respect animals as living creatures, instead of considering them as inferior creature.

I agree that we need to kill animals for food-we cannot help with it. It can be a life cycle-we take care of animals, and animals die for us to eat. However, I also agree that humans are sometimes cruel to animals. They are living creatures like us, and we should take care of them well. I do not like what some farmers to do animals for food-people lock hundreds of chicken in a small cage or inject dangerous medicine to cows (which are also bad for humans). I also do not like circus-trainers must force animals much to perform wonderfully for our entertainment. However, I think many zoos take care of animals well and are not only for entertainment.
