While watching the part where Mary tells Hancock that their kinds pair up and die, I wondered why.. Why does their power weaken as they start to come closer to each other?
What I came up with is that if the "Gods" like Hancock all start to pair up, they would have their kids also as Gods. So then these Gods would start to dominate the whole world. To stop this, they lost their powers as they loved each other.?? I got this idea from Adam and Eve. God told them not eat the fruit from the tree because they would be like him. Therefore God kicks them out of Eden.

I agree with you. If gods like Hancock start to pair up with other gods then it would be hard for normal people to live. Also by dying I think they would begin to appreciate each other. If they lived forever together, they would stop being grateful for each other. For instance think of Hera and Zeus in the greek myths. Zeus is always after another girl since he is sick of Hera. I think it is to force them to appreciate the time they have left together.

Jessica answer made sense. but dont gods have kids and their god power will transfer or the child will inherit their parents power and become gods themselves. like hercules and his father zeus.

Yeah, its really sad that they cant be together because their seperated by death. I think though that love is basically greater than all! You cant buy love and like would do rather live by yourself or with someone you dont even love or wohld you live happily withthe person you love, cherish the times you have together and die peacefully? i think thats better! you start to appreciate the person more because you know that you dont have forever with that person. You want to make it last and be the best experience and make lots of happy memories together. I think thats better than having any super power.

I do not like the idea that those two can never get together without dying. However, it makes sense, that if they have kids, they would dominate the whole world and make humans suffer. And this would also explain why "Gods" like Boa Hancock died out because they were not able to have children. Other explanation would be that Mary and Boa Hancock are like opposite magnets. The nature forbids them to come together, like opposite magnets do, because if they come together, it might cause trouble to the world, and would defy the nature.

I guess it is because they can't control themselves. I don't know who made those heroes(?) like Hancock but if they love each other and get childrens i mean everyone, everyone of us would be heroes and i mean that is impossible. So i guess the person? who made heroes had to eventually stop making them being together but eventually Hancock and the woman fell in love and yeah.. I mean that is what i think.

I easily think that heros need peace when they find love. They also need a stable family as humans.

I think it's just give and take. Instead of having this super power that makes Hancock the strongest man in the world, he cannot be together with his own kind of people. I kind of agree with Hanbi that if those people could get together, for sure they will doninate human races. Also, Hancock is an superhero movie therefore, there must be two or three superheros at most. If there are many superheros in the movie, individuals among them would not stand out as much. So it has to be set like this

I guess what author or the director is trying to say is that power of love is the most valuable or the greatest thing in the world. The power of love can change people's way of thinking, lives, or behavior. Some people change their behavior in order to be with the one they love or change their job because of their lover. I think this is very important. However, it is very dangerous because it could ruin people's lives. Sine power of love is very strong, it disarms their real strength.

I think this is because love is chalked up as a human characteristic. I also agree with David that the director was trying to get across the point that love is even greater then immortality. I also really like the point David made about the power of love being so strong it disarms their physical strength, that seems to ring true in my head. Makes me wonder though, do angels go to heaven/hell if they die?

i do agree in your pat that when two super heroes have kids they would probably have kids that would have powers, and the more people with superpowers it would be hard to control and they would have power in society. Love is importatnt to some people and when marrying they would give up mostly anything

I agree with you. If they paired up and started procreating, who knows if they might start a "League of superiors" and take over the world? I think it's a way to keep them under control. We saw it with Hancock in the beginning where he abused his powers. More superhumans means more chance that they would abuse their powers and not comply with the law.

yea similar to yours idea. i think the gods made hancokc and ray like that because if they get married and pair up, they would be as powerful as the gods themselves or even more powerful than them. so the gods worried and feared about that happening, so they creatred them like that. hehe

um.. i think its like a balance because when two super power human beins pare up they would have immortal power and would have the option to take over the world. and yea in this way i think is a balance of power and between them

I guess it's a choice that they have to make between love or power. They can't have everything in life. Normal people can't have superpowers and I guess for superhumans in this movie they can't have love. You have to pick one or the other and see what's more important to you.
