okay so in popol uh, when the "woodcarvings" does not pray or even remember the Heart of Sky, the gods get mad and punish them by bringing flood. And then Jaguars eat them. But that is not the end, even the tortilla griddles and cooking pots talk and crushed their faces!!!! so creepy....what was your reaction or any thought that went through your mind when you read this part of plates curshing faces

Your questions are very creative, Kevin.. It would be very creepy if my tumbler started to talk to me and tried to kill me. The book describes the whole even to be terrifying. "They want to climb up on the houses, but they fall as the houses collapse. They want to climb the trees; they're thrown off by the trees." The whole universe is fighting humans, and they have no escape from it. The gods from Popal Vuh are the scariest out of all.

When I read this part of Popol Vuh, I thought that the gods were really unforgiving and did not give second chances to these poor woodcarvings. The gods had no love or kindness towards their creations. I mean isn't it the gods' fault that the woodcarvings didn't pray or remember the Heart of Sky. They didn't make the woodcarvings correctly in the first place. Aren't gods supposed to perfect and all-knowing?

At first, I was like what is going on but then as I kept reading I felt really disgusted with all the details. Personally, since I hate blood and violence, it was hard for me to read and pay attention to.

My reaction was that I found the story to be very cliche and corny as the movie green lantern. For those of you who didn't see it, it sucked big time. Anyways, i was disappointed because...really? little pots and inanimate objects saying "you abused us, now we are going to abuse you?"... I thought that it was quite trivial as we see the idea of revenge in many stories, movies, and other means of expressing tales. So I thought that it was dumb

well, blood and me kinda dont go together, so it was kinda gross to read cause in my case when i read many times i imagine whats going on in the story. i think this made the story for me to be a bit more confusing cause i was still thinking about the disgusting part

When I read it I was like what the heck? It just seemed really weird and unreal that cooking pots were talking and saying that they were going to get revenge. I didn't know whether to laugh or be scared. It's kind of scary when you think about it since everything around the people were like getting revenge.

Its kinda weird for me to say this, but then again I'm weird sometimes...anyways. it reminded me of Beauty and the Beastq! Except this time, the objects that were alive were all trying to kill the people unlike in Belle's case, they became good friends. I mean, at first, my thoughts were ''what the crap? How do pots and pans come alive and start killing people? Thats super creepy.'' It also taught me a good lesson to always be careful with my kitchen utensils cuz you never know! haha but yeah that was freaky.

I don't know... it would be really depressing if you went on to the next life, and all you could say for yourself was that you got beaten to death by a toaster that came to life. Seems so ridiculous. But yeah, as Stormy said, those Popol Vuh gods must have really wanted to get rid of their failures, seems pretty brutal. It seems like the humans in that culture thought that the gods thought of them as insignificant and just as worship givers. But, back to the question, I think that I would like getting killed like that... and those gods are pretty dang scary...

While I was reading this part of Popol Vuh, I was imagining these non living things coming to life, abiogenesis, a term I came up with while doing research. Yeah, I must admit that it sounds creepy and horrible as some of you guys mentioned, I found it more horrified when these inanimate objects are trying to force their way to the sinful beings, devastating them at Gods will. Wow, that really scared the fear out of me.

I personally hate this story because it's ridiculous. The only part that saved it for me was when the pots and tortillas began attacking the humans. I thought that was hilarious because it made me wonder whether the creators of the legend were trying to be deliberately funny or not. Other than that, my reaction throughout the whole story was anger because I thought that the gods were really irresponsible and cruel.

I thought that the gods from Popul Vuh were really ridiculous and violent. They were purposefully letting flood, jaguars, and non-living things to destroy and crush their own creations. They did it because their woodcarvings did not praise them and were therefore failures. However, this was silly because it was gods' fault that they were failures. Gods from Popul Vuh are imperfect and yet ruthlessly destroy their imperfect creations. It was also depressing to see how even tortilla griddles contributed to the destruction of gods' woodcarvings.

Joon, I was thinking the same thing. It kind of seemed like the creators of the myth were having a weak stab at humor. Just, I don't find too much funny about getting your face smashed in... so, i don't think I enjoyed that part as much as you. It seems so unnecessary to add that into the myth... i mean, what sort of unanswered mystery of the world was that supposed to answer? Why tortilla cookers hurt when they come in contact with your face?
