We've been reading A Doll's House and the misogyny in it is very clear. The thing is, we think that this is all in the past. I still think that women are very much oppressed. Not as obvious as before but oppressed nonetheless. I think this blog post will explain it better: On Feminism: Being "Nice" hila-lumiere.blogspot.kr/2011/09/on-feminism-being-nice.html I think think she clearly outlines the expectations that are put on women and the belittlement they experience every day. What do you guys think?

Segeda I'm not sure if is that the awnser that you want but, I think Nora is protecting her husband reputation not because she cares about her husband or not because she loves him, I think she's proctecting her husband reputation because of her reoutation too. I mean imagine if everybody knows that she's cheating on her she will lose the respect for everyone

I also think that this story is not all about the old days. The gender discrimination may have been much lessened over the centuries, but I still believe that it exists. There are some people nowadays that especially think that men should be the one out, working and women should be at home, taking care of their children. In this story, Nora is being called as "little skylark" and, as the story goes on, we could see that her husband keeps on referring to her as "little". This shows how he is definite in his belief that he is above her and she is under him. Because Nora does accept this fact, she doesnt seem offended being called little.

Yea I totally agree! The oppression of women is still prevalent in today's society. So, this story is not like a far away, distant story that we cannot connect to today's time.

I agree that there is still some degree of oppression going on in today's society. But it's not just women. People of different races, religions, or cultural backgrounds are all getting oppressed to some degree, just like how women are being oppressed. It's just what happens in society. I sometimes think women make too much of a big deal out of it though. Of course we want to be given equal rights and opportunities, but when I sometimes hear what feminist people say, I have a feeling they're going overboard.

I think most of the women today are like "the Nora" who didn't mature at the beginning of the story. Now, still many women are willing to be a doll for their husbands and be loved dearly like doves. They don't recognize that they lost their self-consciousness. Male chauvinism especially makes women funk to against their husbands. A stereotype is hard to change.

I did not realize that little detail... It is true that today, women are still experiencing the belittlement or have to face people, who think that women should be treated in a non-serious way. But in order to take away these "habits" of people looking down on talented women, the society and the culture has to change in a way, in which people do not recognize the differences in gender anymore in their unconscious mind. However, I think that this is very hard, or even might be impossible.

There are still a lot of discrimination that is going on with women. Maybe not in some areas of the world, but I've read some articles and it seems that women are still as mistreated as in the past. However, I think it got a lot better for women these days. Women have a lot of rights as well as influence and power in the world. They are actually heard these days. I think it is going to take a long time to fully end discrimination against women but we're getting there.

I think one way or another, discrimination is always going to exist. There is always going to be some guidelines that we have to follow and if we don't, then society shuns us. In a society were the majority hive mind rules, then by default, the minority will always be discriminated. As for feminism, I think that women are definitely being oppressed today. They still have some guidelines they have to follow and they still have to behave a certain way, or else. But then again that goes the same for men and women alike.

i totally agree that in todays society we still see discrimination against women. Compared to past times, women;s discrimation decreased a lot, but we still see in many parts of the world where women are still seen as an inferior race. Eventhough it is like this, lately we see women that are heard, that even have power. Women being oppressed in society hasnt been the only problem, but also discrimation in terms of race and even social classes. I think it would take quite some time for all this to be pretty equal but as time passes it gets better little by little.

I think the discrimination towards women is analogous like racism; that it will always linger amongst humans and that it will never be completely forgotten. Like some others mentioned in the discussion board, it's not as bad as it was before, which is good However, needless to say, it still exists to a certain degree. I think it's necessary to take action to prevent such acts against women, but unless we live in a utopia, it's very unlikely that it will ever fade away completely.

Although I think women's oppression got a lot better compared to the past, but I still think women are not being treated equally as men. This can be seen in the work place where men are hired more than women. Also Women get fired more easily especially when they become pregnant and have to leave their work places for a long time.

I also agree that women's oppression alleviated a lot. However it doesn't mean that it disappeared completely. To some extent it is evident that there is oppression against women but it did fade a bit.

Obviously women in some parts of the world are still struggling to get their rights. But I think things are getting better afterall. Before, women couldn't even think of the idea of fighting for freedom. Today we see many women risking their lives and going against their traditional values to earn their equal rights as men. It will take a while to see a perfectly equal balance between men and women when it comes to their rights, but seeing the efforts and changes gives me hope of the community tomorrow.

The oppression of women's rights is not just history. It is apparent everywhere, no matter how small. Even in 'developed' countries, women find that they have smaller pay then their male counterparts. Gender roles still restrict women to certain roles in society. Its just gotten a lot more underground over time.
