In the past maybe every children have thought about having eternal life because there were many characters in the cartoon have power to live for many years. However, facing reality, it is impossible for a human to live forever therefore my perspective changed. Also, I never thought about how my afterlife would be because I never thought I would die now. In addition, for Gilgamesh, I think he was afraid of death as he saw his friend, Enkidu, having hard time dreaming, or he was a selfish men.

In the past, I used to wonder how it would feel like to live forever and become immortal. But now when I think about it, I find that living forever has its drawbacks. Boredom is one of them. You would get bored if you do things over and over again for eternity. Also I think that being immortal would lead you not to appreciate lives of other living beings. To live forever would lead you to feel superior of other living beings and make you forget how it is to be afraid of death.

Do you know the song called "forever young" by Alphaville? They did want to live forever but i didnt. When i was younger and addicted to watch spongebob squarepants, i actually have wanted to live forever because Spongebob and Patrick had a really good life. I could connect spongebob's life to my own life because thats what me and my best friend used to do, just had fun without worrying about other thing. And if you lived the life without worrying anything, your life would be worthless, but if you do care about your life and you know that you may die after reading this sentence or you may die tomorrow, you would be more prepared and wont waste a minute or a second of your life. Gilgamesh wants to be immortal because he knows that death is painful.

I wanted to live forever. I wanted to be immortal because there are just so many things in life that I want to do, but I couldn't do all of them because of limited time. When one has plenty of time in doing something, he or she tends to relax and finish the assignment or whatever the person wanted to do with ease and without having to feel the pressure from time. Another example is right now, as I'm typing up this response hastely, I realize that I do so because I am again pressured by time. I have so many things to do afterwards that I can sit back and relax and take my time on this assignment. I wanted to be able to do EVERYTHING (absolutely EVERYTHING) at that time (when I wanted to be immortal) because getting the opportunity to enjoy, do, and to feel the joy, sadness, fear, anxiety, and exhilaration from doing everything seemed so interesting to me.. So that's why I wanted to live forever then. but now.. I don't really know.

Maybe Gilgamesh, knowing that he was only part god, wanted to have eternal life because that is what separated gods from humans. By gaining immortality, he would have a way of declaring that he was no different than full-gods.
I don't want immortality because I don't think that i would want to stay in this world as a really old man. If you think about it, if you lived for a very long time, then everyone else would seem really immature to you. You would be tired of everything because nothing really surprises you, and the world would seem pretty slow and pointless if you lived forever.

No I don't want to live forever. I think life means a lot of things if it doesn't last forever. If it does last forever, it would be kind of meaningless for me to continue living and that just sounds boring. But I do like the idea of how I can still be immortal by leaving my trace behind, like those famous authors did. It would be cool for people from future to remember by name and honor what I've done. I guess this is why Gilgamesh wanted to be immortal. He wanted to let everyone, including those from future, to recognize his supernatural power and dignity.

Eh, ive thought about it and it turns out it depends on many things. For example, Gilgamesh was not only half god and human but he was king, he had so much power in his hands and that's why he wanted to be immortal. If he could live forever he could have no limits. But the thing is that Gilgamesh had the ego the size of earth and was content with haphazardly ruling his land only having the benefits of kingship. If you suddenly had a choice to be immortal right now in your highschool life with your thoughts and philosophy you might and might not accept, but if you had the power that Gilgamesh had, the thought of usurping nature and ending the cycle of mortality can be tempting... The thought of an afterlife is scary like many things unknown to us but it has never really terrified me.

I wouldn't want to live forever because life would seem so pointless. I feel like what motivates people in life is that they know that they only have a limited time to live. This makes them want to make the best of the life they have left on earth.
But I sort of get why Gilgamesh was so afraid of the afterlife. If you heard your friend talking about a dream that is supposedly real of afterlife and in the dream the afterlife was horrible, you wouldn't want to go die and live there for eternity. Also, his life on earth is so much greater than what he would ever get in that horrible afterlife so I guess he didn't want to leave it all behind.

First of all i do not want to live forever. Because i personally do not believe in after life and living forever would be happy for a short time however the reason of living is for me to have happy moments and fun moments together with my friends and family. Howewver if it is impossible i would not go for immortal. And gilgamesh was afraid of the friends death not because he wanted to live forever. Before his friend died he didnt even think about living forever. I guess is because he was afraid of the power of the gods. So he wanted to become immortal.

Yes.. like most of us here, I, too have thought about being immortal. However, Like everyone here, I think I'm too young too think seriously about death. It kind of depresses me to think about my death when I'm only 18 years old. I ll be good that if you are immortal, you don't have to get depressed by the fact that someday you are going to die. Actually, i'm afraid of the feeling I would have on the very moment of my death. It's like no matter how many times I think about it, I wouldn't get a clue of it. It is like the fear of unknown because there is no one who understands death. If there is a reason for me to live forever, I would like to be immortal, however, I feel that days would be boring with no friends of my age and stuff. I think Gilgamesh wanted immortality because he already a 75% god and had that supernatural power that maybe he felt too depressing to let his power go by death.

Truthfully, I actually don't have a straight answer for this question. At some times, I do want to live forever. Not because I'm scared of death, but because I want to observe how the world ends up, and how the world changes over time. I find how fast the world changes and progresses impressive, and a thing that would be amazing to watch. But, I also want to experience the thing after death, because for me, death is not the end, just another part of life.

i guess that everyone is afraid of dying because we simply dont know when it is going to come and well we just wanna live the life. I mean we all go through the cycle of life we are born we grow up and mature and then we die. i guess that we just want to enjoy life without thinking what will happen next, or at least thats what i think. i also believe that a reason why sometimes people would like to stay alove is becasue they dont want to or arent ready to let go of their loved ones.

hell no. I would not want to live forever....I don't wanna see people around me dying and leaving me alone..thats so sad. Even though, I might be able to travel and explore around and experience some exciting things on earth, but for the most part, i would have to be alone...where my friends, family, and neighbors are dead..I'm also kinda curious what would happened if I die..I believe there is an afterlife with heaven and hell and I want to experience those things too..
