Do you ever feel like learning history is so useless and meaningless because it would never affect your life right now? Say we never found the Rosetta Stone or King Tut's tomb. Do you think it would change our lives even a bit? Why do you think people learn/teach history if it wouldn't directly affect our lives?
Personally, I think history is important because it becomes a standard that we can compare our present lives to. If we never knew how people lived in the past, we would never exactly know how we're living our lives right now. I also think we can really identify with the people who lived in the past, no matter how long ago it was. People rarely change in terms of their deepest needs and wants, and through history, we can see what patterns exist in our behaviors and thoughts.

Yes, definitely. I personally hate history because learning events that occured far back in the past is boring and confusing. But as you said, I think it is still important to learn the past for the present, and for the future as well. Even though it wouldn't directy affect our lives, it would still affect us in some way, because we are living based on our "history".

I personally think learning history is important and I find it very fun as well. Through history, we can see how people lived, thought, and behaved in the past, and most of all, how they developed and changed according to different times and environments. It is very interesting to learn about how and why we humans had lived and are living the way we do in the present. Without proper knowledge and understanding of the past we would not be able to understand our own identities.

I consider learning history is important because history is a root of a nation. A tree can’t live well without roots. How can we don’t know the exactly place we are from except for mommy’s belly?

Honestly, I don't like learning history because I have to memorize so much information such as names, dates. and places. However, history isn't useless or meaningless because we can learn from the past to improve the future. Furthermore, if we never found the Rosetta Stone or King Tut's tomb, people wouldn't have any interest in Egyptian history. And although history doesn't directly affect our lives, we still learn/teach it to prevent atrocious occurences like the holocaust to happen again.

I think learning history is important in way for us to learn from our past mistakes. We can use history as a precedent that aids us to make important decisions in the future. Also I agree that history becomes a standard for us to compare our present lives to. So I think learning history is important

I think it's really important. We learn so much from it. All this knowledge that we have now that we think we found on our own is derived from past scientists and historians. We learn about the right way to do things and also learn from mistakes. Plus it's super interesting to see how everything in the past shaped our lives today. How self-centered would we be if we just focused on ourselves and never bothered to learn about people before us?

I would say it is very very important to learn one's country's history. Without knowing history people will make same mistakes as past and i think people mus learn from their past. I understand certain people who does not want to study other people's history, but they must be aware that they must learn their history. What would you do if some foreigner ask you about your country's history? It would be very embarrassing if you can't say nothing other than I don't know.

i feel that history is very useful. things that we do right now and that happens today is based on history. Due to history we learn from our mistakes and fix problem that are made, making the future better.
Not only useful it is very interesting, for example the rosseta stone, and tablets and etc.. we learn about the first written language which effect us today.

I think history is useless because honestly it doesn't need to be used in actual work or job that everyone eventually will have or do. so its very useless to me but if its a subject to study than i will study it. there are people who love to study the history of the past and people who love to find things from the past. but to me i think it will never affect or have anything to do with me.

Even though I personally do not like studying history, I still think it is important to learn history. As Julie said, we can see the differences and similarities between ancient people and us. By examining those things, we should try to learn from history to not repeat the same mistakes done in the past. We can gain our ancestors' wisdom and adaptation to environment by learning history. We can also identify ourselves by studying the origin of our world-it would be weird to know nothing about the past.

No actually I've never felt that learning history is useless and meaningless because when we learn about the past, we can use those ideas to learn from what mistakes history has portrayed. Say for example, the mistreatment of the African Americans. They were discriminated just by the mere fact of their skin color. When we look back on history, we know how cruelly they were treated and realize that part in history shall never be repeated.

Even though I do not like learning history, I still find it useful. It teaches us many different things about the past and how we came to live our lives in the way right now. Also, we can fix the things that were done in a wrong way in the past. Without the knowledge from history, we will not be able to correct those mistakes which will lead to the repetition of history.

History is an important part of our lives in my opinion. All the things that happened in the past directly or indirectly has an influence in our lives right now. I think it's important to study it to understand everything thats going on right now. Also, there is a saying that says history repeats itself and I totally agree with that. There are so many things that have happened in the past that are happening now. Through studying history, we now know how to fix it in a more efficient way.

I was wondering this while learning world history last year. I wondered why we are learning this, whats the purpose of this, why dont we move on~ and I figured out why history is important to our lives. Looking back through the past will help us understand how the world changed from nothing until now. History has some interesting part of it. think about how they made the golden mask of the king of Egypt back in the day, and think about how they made a pyramid. I sometimes wonder how do they do it. History is sometimes interesting, I must say.
